Make-up artist and TV commercial agent Yoong Swen Moon, 21 and weighing 94 kg was crowned Miss Jumbo Queen 2011 at the grand final held at Sungei Wang Plaza on Tuesday 1^st November 2011.

Yoong from Cheras Kuala Lumpur beat off nine other contestants to win the title crown, cash prize of RM5,000, trophy, sash and shopping vouchers worth RM2,000

The competition was open to all female Malaysians with a minimum weight of 80kg.

The ten finalists paraded on stage wearing sports wear and evening wear and showed off their talent in singing and dance performance to the cheer of the packed crowd.

“Jumbo Queen 2011 provides a platform for large-size women to express their individuality, and be in the limelight and battle it on equal ground for the crown. The competition also boosts their confidence and enhances their great personality,” said event organiser Sungei Wang Plaza senior manager of promotions and public relations, K. K. Lim.

Painting Jalan Sultan Mural to save heritage

Over 50 local artists joined forces to create awareness on the importance of preserving heritage by painting on a once neglected and dilapidated wall of a pre-war shophouse next to the carpark on Lot 49, Jalan Sultan last Saturday 15^th October 2011.

The group’s sincere efforts to support the local community in preserving the century-old buildings along a stretch of Jalan Sultan for its heritage deserved to be appreciated and praised.

The buildings are to be acquired by the authorities to build an underground rail station for the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) project.

The Jalan Sultan Mural painting event which started at 9.00 am and completed by 1.00 pm.was organised by a local daily The Star.

ICI Paints sponsored the cleaning and painting of the wall and the paints for the artists.

Nine Emperor Gods celebration in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya

The 40-year old Leng Eng Tian Temple located in Jalan SS9A/4, Sungei Way, Petaling Jaya celebrated the Nine Emperor Gods Festival for the last time this year.

Next year the celebration will be held at the new and bigger temple located at nearby Jalan SS9A/5. It is now under construction and nearing completion.

The land on which the temple sits will be taken over by the developer who has provided an alternative land for the new temple.

The nine-day celebration started from the first day to the ninth day of the ninth moon (Sept 27 – Oct 5, 2011) according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Thousands of devotees thronged the temple to offer prayers to the Gods.

The grand finale to the festival was the fire-walking ceremony where devotees walk over burning charcoal.

More than 80 media representatives attended the event which was in appreciation of the media cooperation and covering of the news it has given to the university.

A 21-year-old University of Nottingham business graduate from Kuala Lumpur Chloe Chen Tien Nee beat off the challenge by 24 other contestants to win the most coveted beauty title of Miss Malaysia World 2011 on Saturday night 20^th August at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in Petaling Jaya.

Chloe received the biggest prize money of RM200,000 cash offered by the pageant. She will go on to represent the country to compete in the Miss World Pageant Finals in London on the 6^th of November 2011.

Tickets to the dinner show were sold at price of RM10,000 per table for VIP, RM5,000 per table and RM3,000 per table. All the net proceeds will go to Hope For Children Charity Fund

Miss Chinese Cosmos Southeast Asia 2011 winner is Natalie Chiaw

Natalie Chiaw Mei Yan from Kuala Lumpur was crowned Miss Chinese Cosmos Southeast Asia 2011 in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday night 13^th August 2011 in the Palace of the Golden Horses hotel royal ballroom.

The event saw 20 contestants from five Southeast Asia countries vying for the coveted title and the winner gets the honour to represent her country at the Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant International World Final 2011 to be held in Hong Kong this year.

Natalie, 24, is a mass communication graduate of Kolej Damansara Utama (KDU). She is currently working as a sales person in an IT company to showcase her skills and get the experience until she finds something better.

Natalie received cash and sponsored prizes worth RM200,000 in addition to the crown and title.

Jeniifer Foh Jie Ni, 22, a free-lance model from Cameron HIghlands, Pahang was first runner-up and Gong Wen Hui, 23, a music student from Thailand was the second runner-up.

The guests were treated to cabaret dance performances a la Mariyln Monroe as well as special dance performance put up by the contestants. Some of the contestants also get to show off their skills in the talent show.

On Sunday August 7, 2011, Malaysian fashion designer Keith Kee celebrated 10 years in the world of fashion with a grand bash that featured a gala fashion show as well as live entetainment and sale of limited edition of Keith Kee Couture’s 10^th Anniversary handerchiefs at RM50 each with all proceeds benefitting the UN World Food Programme.

More than 600 invited guests who included the crème de la crème of the fashion, beauty and entertainment industry celebrated the designer’s ten years of couture fashion with champagne while viewing his exquisite designs being presented in ten different collections.

Among the long list of celebrities, stars and top rmodels present were supermodel Amber Chia, Tengku Azura, Tinie, Kelly Jagan, Isaac Ong, Sim Hui, Cassandra Patrick, Ken Tan, Stefanie Chua, Katherine Chan, Wafa de Korte, Kurt Chin, Benjamin Toong, Gillian Hung, Winnie Loo, Dato’ Lewre Lew, Hong Kong artiste Eddie Law, Suki Low, Angie Seow and Aenie Wong.

The Miss Malaysia Pageant 2011 grand final dinner and show saw twenty young female Malaysians selected from various states vying for the three Miss

titles at the grand ballroom of Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel, Subang Jaya on Friday 29^th July 2011.

Eugenee Ooi Lee Shen, 22, beat off fierce challenge from nineteen other finalists to win the Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen of the Year 2011.

Jennifer Yap Siew Ming. 21,took the Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan 2011 crown and Ilinca Tan Kae Ni, 21, the Miss Malaysia Tourism Global 2011 crown.

All the three winners walked away with cash RM5,000 and sponsored products worth RM5,000.

The Miss Malaysia Pageant is a unique contest incorporating three Miss Malaysia titles – Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen of the Year, Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan and Miss Malaysia Tourism Global where the three Miss Malaysia queens are crowned in one final.

The opening ceremony of the World Championship Marching Show Bands 2011 (WCMSB) at Jalan Bukit Bintang on Monday 25^th July 2011 saw eleven bands taking part in the street parade with band members performing lively music, waving flags and dancing on the street to the enjoyment of guests and tourists.

The four-day competition from July 27 – 30 at the KL Football Stadium in Cheras will see a total of 30 marching bands from eight countries competing for the coveted title of “World Champion”.

Twelve Malaysian bands will also compete for the National Level Championship.

The WCMSB is an annual event by the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB).

Malaysia

is hosting the largest marching show band competition in the world for the first time after winning the bid to host the 2011 World Championship at the WAMSB delegates conference held in Chicago,

in November 2009.

MIJF Jewellery Design Awards 2011 winners

The winners and finalists of Malaysia’s first MIJF Jewellery Design Awards 2011 received their prizes in a ceremony held in conjunction with Malaysia International Jewellery Fair 2011 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Sunday 10^th July 2011.

The winning entries in the four competition category - ring, earrings, necklace and bangle/brooch were manufactured into masterpieces by Amee Philips Jewellery and showcased during the four-day MIJF 2011 from 7^thto 10^th July 2011.

The four winning jewellery collections worth over RM258,000 were put on sale during the fair and part of the proceeds donated to Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA).

Grand street procession marks 118th anniversary of Datuk Kong temple

The Datuk Kong (拿督公)Temple in Teluk Intan, Perak celebrated its 118th anniversary with a big bang! – A grand colourful street procession from the temple ground to the main streets and back on Sunday, 19th June 2011, the eighteenth day of the fifth lunar month.

The temple founded 118 years old became strong and famous and today attract thousands of Taoist followers from far and near who come to pray and seek blessings for family good health and happiness from the Gods in the temple.

The birthday celebration drew thousands of worshippers who flocked to the temple to pay their respects and wish happy birthday to Datuk Kong as the chief deity of the temple as well as other resident deities.

The Chinese worshipped Datuk Kong in the belief that the he has the power to preserve peace, harmony and safety in both residential areas and factories.

Several dozens devotees in a state of trance had their cheeks pierced through with long shiny steel rods as offering of thanks to all the deities of the temple located at the edge of Eastern Garden, a housing area.

On the prayer altars were placed red tortoise buns, peach-shaped buns, green bananas, pineapples and other fruits, flowers, "huat koay" (properous cake), "ang koo" (red cake), betel leaves and curut cigars as offerings to the deities.

The celebratory procession had dragon dancers, lion dancers, school band and spiked devotees passing through the housing area of Eastern Garden before making its way into the main streets of the town including Jalan Ah Cheong and the famous century old Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan before returning to the temple.

It was an unforgettable experience for the many residents who lined up on both sides of the procession route to witness the colourful procession.

“The town has not seen such a grand street procession like this for a long time," said an old-time resident who witnessed the procession at Jalan Ah Cheong in the town centre.

The streets along the procession route were closed in stages by police and Rela personnel.

Lu Shan crowned Super GT Malaysia Queen 2011

The 21-year old accounting and finance student at Nilai University College, Lu Shan won the Super GT Malaysia Queen Pageant 2011, at the finals of the beauty pageant that was held in Sepang circuit in conjunction with the Super GT 2011 race.

Lu Shan, 21, beats 14 other finalists, wowing the judges with her stunning body frame of 32-25-34 and walked away with RM2,000 cash prize, other prizes worth more than RM8,200 and a trip to Japan for professional race queen training.

The event brought 15 finalists selected last May from the semi-final round at Empire Shopping Gallery in Subang Jaya competing for their chance to win the coveted title.

The 15 contestants strutted on the catwalk before a packed audience in batik dress, casual sportwear and Samba dance wear - though no swimsuits.

Five subsidiary titles were won.

Super GT 2011: Hot race queens on show

The first-ever Super GT 2011 Round 3 debut by race organizer JP Performance Motorsports saw large crowd who came together for the car racing from 18-19th June 2011 at the Sepang International Circuit.

Judging by the turnout of more than 50,000 spectators over the Sat/Sun weekend, it was certain that the Super GT 2011 Round 3 was a rip-roaring success.

Apart from the race, fans got the chance to get up close with the race queens who pulled in the crowd during the pitwalk walkabout session and stage introduction.

The hot and sexy race queens were happy to wave to the fans and posed for endless photographs.
